Reducing rates of operative intervention for pediatric post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage
The Laryngoscope Jan 12, 2018
Whelan RL, et al. - An estimation was conducted of the frequency of rebleeding in patients admitted for observation after presenting with nonactive hemorrhage in the post-tonsillectomy period. Furthermore, experts coveted a comparison of the rebleeding rates between patients managed with observation vs initial operative control and intended to elucidate the complication profile related to observation as a management strategy for post-tonsillectomy bleeding. No statistical variation was determined in the rates of rebleeding between patients observed for nonactive post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage and those managed with initial operative exploration. Observation possibly exhibited comparable safety and efficacy than the operative management for pediatric patients presenting with nonactive post-tonsillectomy bleeding.
