Reduced willingness to expend effort for reward in obesity: Link to adherence to a 3-month weight loss intervention

Mata F, et al. – A comparative assessment was conducted of the willingness to expend effort for rewards between young adults with a healthy weight, overweight, and obesity. It also determined how individual variations in this willingness speculated the adherence to weight loss treatment. It was noted that young adults with obesity, compared with their counterparts with overweight, exhibited diminished motivation to expend effort for obtaining high–magnitude rewards. It was discovered that less willingness to expend effort for the most uncertain rewards predicted the poor adherence to weight loss therapy.
