Reduced time to suppression among neonates with HIV initiating antiretroviral therapy within 7 days after birth
Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes Nov 20, 2019
Domínguez-Rodríguez S, Tagarro A, Palma P, et al. - Researchers examined how the timing of antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation is associated with time-to-suppression among infants who tested HIV-positive and initiated ART within the first 28 days of life. They included 44 neonates. ART was initiated within 7 days of life in 19 neonates (43.2%) and from 8 to 28 days in 25 (56.8%) neonates. A 4-fold higher likelihood of earlier suppression was observed among infants treated within 7 days vs those treated after 7 days. For each week's delay in the ART initiation, a decrease in the probability of suppression by 35% was observed.
