Reduced left ventricular mechanical dispersion in heart failure patients undergoing cardiac resynchronisation therapy is associated with superior long-term outcome

Heart Rhythm May 24, 2018

van der Bijl P, et al. - Researchers used an ongoing registry of heart failure (HF) recipients of cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), to relate left ventricular mechanical dispersion (LVMD) to long-term prognosis after 6 months of CRT. They analyzed clinical, echocardiographic and ventricular arrhythmia (VA) data as well as baseline (prior to CRT) and 6-month echocardiograms. Two groups were formed, based on the median LVMD (84 ms) at 6 months post-CRT. Larger LVMD at 6 months after CRT was found to be independently related to all-cause mortality and VA. In the detection of patients who remained at high mortality risk after CRT implantation, the possible utility of LVMD was shown.
