Reduced CDHR3 expression in children wheezing with rhinovirus
Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Apr 13, 2018
Hammar KS, et al. - In children with acute wheezing, researchers assessed rs6967330 genotypes and mRNA expression of the transmembrane protein cadherin-related family member 3 (CDHR3) in relation to presence of rhinovirus and clinical symptoms. They compared the results to a group of age-matched healthy children. Reduced CDHR3 mRNA levels were seen in preschool children with RV-induced wheezing. Possibly as a result of this reduction, the epithelial layers of the airways become more permeable, subsequently causing an increased vulnerability. Overall, measuring CDHR3 mRNA levels might help to identify a more severe phenotype of wheezing preschool children.
