Recurrent short interpregnancy interval: Maternal and neonatal outcomes

European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Jul 30, 2021

Weiss A, Sela HY, Rotem R, et al. - Maternal and neonatal outcomes associated with recurrent short interpregnancy interval (IPI; < 6 months) were evaluated in women in their third delivery. In this retrospective computerized database study conducted at a single tertiary medical center over 20 years (1999-2019), they identified 10,569 women who had three consecutive deliveries at the medical center. Of those, 338 (3.2%) women had recurrent short IPIs, and 1,021 (9.7%) had recurrent optimal IPIs (18-48 months). Observations suggest correlation of short IPI with unfavorable maternal and neonatal outcomes. Maternal anemia on admission to labor as well as SGA were observed in correlation with recurrent short IPI. Pregnant women with recurrent short IPI should be evaluated for hemoglobin concentrations and fetal growth.
