Recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis after thyroid cancer surgery and intraoperative nerve monitoring
The Laryngoscope Jul 24, 2019
Mizuno K, et al. - Utilizing a nationwide claims database in Japan, researchers studied the risk of postoperative recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis (RLNP) with and without the use of intraoperative nerve monitoring (IONM) during thyroid cancer surgery. This retrospective cohort study included 5,804 patients. According to the findings, the use of IONM did not lessen the risk of RLNP significantly. The results can be explained by indication bias or unmeasured confounders for the T4 and N1b populations.
