Recurrence rates after repair of inguinal hernia in women: A systematic review
JAMA Dec 25, 2018
Schmidt L, et al. - In women who had undergone repair of primary inguinal hernia, researchers examined rates and types of recurrences. For studies reporting recurrences after repair of primary inguinal hernia in women, PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane databases in September 2017 were searched. In this systematic review including 55 studies comprising 43,870 women, the rate of recurrence after repair of primary inguinal hernia in women was lower after laparoscopic repair compared to open repair. Femoral hernias in women were often intraoperative findings during the repair of recurrent inguinal hernia. When open mesh vs nonmesh techniques were used, recurrence rates were similar.
