Recovery after spinal cord injury by modulation of the proteoglycan receptor PTPσ
Experimental Neurology Aug 20, 2018
Rink S, et al. - Given that the recent discovery of the specific chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs) signaling receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase sigma (RPTPσ) provided an opportunity to refine the therapeutic approach to overcome CSPGs inhibitory actions, researchers intended to explore recovery after spinal cord injury by modulation of the proteoglycan receptor PTPσ. They determined the amount of serotonergic fibers in the preserved neural tissue bridges (PNTB) around the lesion site. Data reported that systemic therapy with intracellular sigma peptide improved locomotor, sensory and vegetative recovery which was associated with more spared serotonergic fibers in PNTB.
