Recent global patterns in prostate cancer incidence and mortality rates
European Urology Sep 12, 2019
Culp MBB, et al. - Recent worldwide prostate cancer incidence, mortality rates, and trends were investigated using up-to-date incidence and mortality data. As per data gained from the GLOBOCAN database, Australia/New Zealand, Northern America, Western and Northern Europe, and the Caribbean, exhibited the highest estimated incidence rates and South-Central Asia, Northern Africa, and South-Eastern and Eastern Asia exhibited the lowest rates. The Caribbean (Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, and Cuba), sub-Saharan Africa (South Africa), parts of former Soviet Union (Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia)showed the highest estimated mortality rates, whereas Asia (Thailand and Turkmenistan) exhibited the lowest rates. During the most recent 5 yrs, a decline in prostate cancer incidence rates was observed in five countries and stabilization of these rates was reported in 35 countries, after increasing for many years; in contrast, four countries in Eastern Europe and Asia displayed a continued increase in these rates. During the most recent 5 data years, mortality rates increased (three countries), remained stable (59 countries), or decreased (14 countries) among the 76 countries examined. These findings suggest stabilized or decreased rates in most countries.
