Reasons for the high cesarean delivery rate among women with ankylosing spondylitis: Using the Korean national health insurance database
The Journal of Rheumatology May 06, 2020
Lee JS, Oh JS, Kim YJ, et al. - In view of higher rate of cesarean births among women with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) than healthy controls, researchers sought for factors linked with cesarean births in women with AS. The Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service claims database yielded data from 1,293 deliveries in women with AS. Among these, 657 were cesarean and 636 were vaginal deliveries. Relative to women with vaginal delivery, those with cesarean deliveries were older, had a lengthier disease duration, and had a higher portion of primipara and dispensation of drugs. Per subgroup analysis in primiparas, a higher risk of cesarean delivery was observed in correlation with maternal age, or dispensation of NSAID alone, or TNFi, DMARD, or corticosteroids.
