Losada E, et al. - Given that patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have an increased risk of fragility fractures, to which antidiabetic therapies may contribute, authours ascertained the risk of fracture related to different antidiabetic treatments as usually prescribed to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients in actual practice conditions. Compared to MTF monotherapy, they noted an association of insulin monotherapy with an increased fracture risk in T2DM patients. When starting a glucose-lowering drug as part of T2DM treatment, a consideration of fracture risk ought to be made.
