Real-time ultrasound Doppler enhances precision in image-guided approaches to the cerebello-pontine angle

World Neurosurgery Aug 17, 2017

Baghdasaryan D, et al. – This study determined the efficacy and reliability of intraoperative Doppler sonography in localizing the transverse and sigmoid sinuses during lateral suboccipital craniotomy. Findings suggested an enhancement in the accuracy in localizing the margins of the transverse and sigmoid sinuses with the combination of image–guidance and micro–Doppler in the retrosigmoid approach, this thereby prevented inadvertent injury. The method could potentially be applied during other craniotomies involving the exposure of a venous sinus.
