Rates and characteristics of SARS‐CoV‐2 infection in persons with hepatitis C virus infection
Liver International Oct 07, 2020
Butt AA, Yan P., et al. - Using the Electronically Retrieved Cohort of HCV Infected Veterans (ERCHIVES), a well‐established database of HCV infected Veterans in care, researchers sought to determine infection rate and clinical features of SARS-CoV-2 infection among persons with HCV infection. Those with missing FIB‐4 score and those with HIV or hepatitis B virus coinfection were excluded. Of the 172,235 people with HCV, 14,305 (8.3%) were tested for SARS‐CoV‐2 infection; 892 (6.2%) tested positive. According to the findings, testing rates are very poor among individuals with HCV. Infected people are more likely to be Black, have a higher BMI and have diabetes or stroke. The degree of liver fibrosis does not seem to have an effect on the infection rate.
