Rapid neurologic improvement predicts favorable outcome 90 days after thrombectomy in the DEFUSE 3 study
Stroke Apr 05, 2019
Heit JJ, et al. - In the DEFUSE 3 study (Endovascular Therapy Following Imaging Evaluation for Ischemic Stroke 3), researchers ascertained if patients with rapid neurological improvement (RNI), defined as a reduction of ≥8 on the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale or National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale zero to one 24 hours after thrombectomy, 24 hours after thrombectomy were more likely to have a favorable clinical outcome. All patients with thrombectomy were included in DEFUSE 3. Following thrombectomy, RNI is associated with a favorable clinical and radiographic results and shorter hospital length of stay. In DEFUSE 3, after late-window thrombectomy, RNI was a promising prognostic sign.
