Rapid administration of methoxyflurane to patients in the emergency department (RAMPED) study: A randomised controlled trial of methoxyflurane vs standard care
Academic Emergency Medicine Oct 02, 2020
Brichko L, Gaddam R, Roman C, et al. - In this randomized parallel group open‐label phase IV trial, the effectiveness of methoxyflurane vs standard care in the initial management of severe pain was examined among adult emergency department (ED) patients. Researchers randomized 120 adult patients who have an initial pain score ≥ 8 on the 11‐point Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) to receive either inhaled methoxyflurane (3mls) or standard analgesic treatment at ED triage. Outcomes indicated no achievement of the pre‐specified substantial reduction in pain but clinically significant lower pain scores in correlation with initial management with inhaled methoxyflurane in the ED vs standard therapy.
