Randomized trial of transcranial DC stimulation for post-stroke dysphagia
Annals of Neurology Jan 25, 2018
Suntrup-Krueger S, et al. - Researchers aimed to assess if transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) could enhance dysphagia rehabilitation following stroke. They also determined the factors influencing treatment success. Findings revealed that application of tDCS over the contralesional swallowing motor cortex supported swallowing network reorganization, which caused faster rehabilitation of acute post-stroke dysphagia. Early treatment initiation seemed beneficial. In the right-hemispheric insulo-opercular stroke, TDCS could be less effective.
