Randomized trial of oral vs enteral feeding for patients with postoperative pancreatic fistula after pancreatoduodenectomy
British Journal of Surgery Feb 14, 2019
Wu JM, et al. - In this multicentre, non-inferiority randomized trial, researchers investigated if oral feeding is non-inferior to enteral feeding in closure of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) after pancreatoduodenectomy, and elucidated the effects of oral feeding on the duration and grade of POPF. They included a total of 114 patients; oral feeding was seen in 57 and enteral feeding was seen in 57. Observations revealed no increase in the duration or grade of POPF with oral feeding, and furthermore, it was associated with reduced duration of stay and hospital costs.
