Randomized trial of division vs nondivision of short gastric vessels during Nissen fundoplication: 20-year outcomes
Annals of Surgery Aug 01, 2018
Kinsey-Trotman SP, et al. - Researchers examined late outcomes from a randomized trial of division vs no division of short gastric vessels during laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication at up to 20 years follow-up. Between May 1994 and October 1995, a total of 102 patients had a laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication with short gastric vessel division (50) vs nondivision (52). At up to 20 years follow-up, laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication demonstrated durable efficacy for heartburn symptom control. However, the division of short-gastric vessels demonstrated no reduction in side effects and was persistently associated with persistent epigastric bloat symptoms at late follow-up in this trial.
