Randomized trial of bupivacaine with epinephrine vs bupivacaine liposome suspension in patients undergoing minimally invasive lung resection
The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery May 26, 2020
Weksler B, et al. - Researchers performed comparison of two bupivacaine formulations [bupivacaine with epinephrine (1,200,000) or liposomal bupivacaine] given intraoperatively to control pain after thoracic surgery. In this randomized, open-label study, 50 patients were recruited; 25 were administered bupivacaine with epinephrine, and 25 were administered liposomal bupivacaine. Outcomes revealed that bupivacaine with epinephrine or liposomal bupivacaine did not differ significantly in reducing pain after minimally invasive lung resection. Until additional data are available, use of the less expensive nonliposomal bupivacaine preparations is favored.
