Randomized trial comparing the safety and antibody responses to live attenuated vs inactivated influenza vaccine when administered to breastfeeding women
Vaccine Jul 10, 2018
Brady RC, et al. - Experts evaluated the potential for transmission of live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) viruses from the mother to the infant and the comparative breast milk antibody responses to LAIV and inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV). For IIV, breast milk and serum antibody responses were higher vs LAIV. For nursing women, LAIV and IIV were safe but there was one (1%) possible transmission of LAIV to an infant. As per data the preferred vaccine for nursing mothers could be IIV.
