Randomized placebo-controlled trial of droperidol and ondansetron for adult Emergency Department patients with nausea

Meek R, et al. – In this randomized controlled trial conducted at the three emergency departments of Monash Health, Melbourne, Australia, researchers compared the effectiveness of IV droperidol 1.25 mg and ondansetron 8 mg IV separately with 0.9% saline placebo for adult patients with nausea in the emergency department. They employed a novel primary outcome measure, expected to aid clinical interpretation of reported results. Outcomes revealed that droperidol or ondansetron was not superior over the placebo in this study population.
