Randomized controlled trial comparing the supraglottic airway to use of an endotracheal tube in sinonasal surgery
International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology May 08, 2018
Adams AS, et al. - Researchers performed a comparison of quality of life measures and indices of airway protection between patients undergoing sinonasal surgery who were ventilated via an supraglottic airway (SGA) or endotracheal tube [ETT]. As per findings, SGA use results in patient diet modification postoperatively, and may also be associated with a reduction in throat pain and dysphonia. SGA use demonstrated no appreciable effect on postanesthesia recovery times, oxygen desaturations, or emesis. For airway management in selected adult patients undergoing routine ambulatory sinonasal surgery, the SGA use appeared to be a safe and reliable option.
