Randomized clinical trial of famciclovir or acyclovir for the treatment of herpes zoster in adults
International Journal of Infectious Diseases May 13, 2018
Pott H, et al. - In patients with herpes zoster, researchers investigated the safety and efficacy of famciclovir vs acyclovir to see if both the regimens are appropriate for treating uncomplicated herpes zoster patients for 7 days. With both interventions, high cure rates and comparable time to full crusting of lesions were seen. As per primary effectiveness endpoint analysis, famciclovir is non-inferior to acyclovir. Most prevalent adverse effects in the pooled groups were headache, diarrhea, nausea, back pain, cold and drowsiness, but none were considered clinically important.
