Randomised trial on performance, safety and clinical benefit of hyaluronic acid, hyaluronic acid plus dexpanthenol and isotonic saline nasal sprays in patients suffering from dry nose symptoms
Auris Nasus Larynx Feb 21, 2020
Thieme U, Müller K, Bergmann C, et al. - In view of the limited data on the clinical benefits of nasal applications for moistening the nasal mucosa, researchers here examined the effects of hyaluronic acid, hyaluronic acid plus dexpanthenol and isotonic saline nasal sprays in patients suffering from dry nose symptoms in an otorhinolaryngological outpatient setting. In this prospective, three-armed clinical trial with two assessment points (baseline and 4 weeks later), 240 patients were randomized to receive either hyaluronic acid, hyaluronic acid plus dexpanthenol or isotonic saline nasal spray over a period of 4 weeks. Outcomes support the suitability of all three tested sprays (hyaluronic acid, hyaluronic acid plus dexpanthenol and isotonic saline) for treating patients suffering from dry nose symptoms. They identified significantly higher perception of nasal moisturization in patients receiving hyaluronic acid plus dexpanthenol vs patients receiving hyaluronic acid or isotonic saline.
