Randomised controlled trial to estimate reduction in pain after laparoscopic surgery when using a combination therapy of intraperitoneal normal saline and the pulmonary recruitment manoeuvre
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Apr 19, 2018
van Dijk JEW, et al. - The researchers aimed at evaluating the effect of two manoeuvres at the end of gynaecological laparoscopy on postoperative pain. Among women with American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) classification I–II, scheduled for an elective laparoscopic procedure for a benign gynaecological indication, carbon dioxide was removed from the abdomen by either a combination treatment of intraperitoneal warm saline and performing a pulmonary recruitment manoeuvre (the intervention group) or with gentle abdominal pressure (the control group). Outcomes suggested no benefits of combined intervention of intraperitoneal saline and the pulmonary recruitment manoeuvre in lowering post-laparoscopic shoulder pain.
