Radiotherapy is a safe and effective salvage treatment for recurrent cervical cancer
Gynecologic Oncology Sep 13, 2018
Kim HJ, et al. - The feasibility and benefit of salvage radiotherapy (RT), predominantly intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), was investigated for patients with recurrent cervical cancer. Researchers retrospectively analyzed 125 patients with recurrent cervical cancer treated with RT for recurred or metastatic tumor mass at Yonsei Cancer Center between January 2007 and December 2016. Findings revealed a five-year overall survival rate of 66%, and late complications were seen in 9.6% of patients (5.6% grade 2, 4% grade 3). For recurrent cervical cancer patients, including those requiring re-irradiation, IMRT proved to be a safe and efficacious salvage modality.
