Radiotherapy alone or with chemotherapy in the management of carcinoma of the supraglottic larynx: A 25-year community hospital experience
American Journal of Clinical Oncology Aug 29, 2018
Rao AR, et al. - In this retrospective review of 46 patients with localized carcinoma of the supraglottic larynx treated from January 1987 through January 2012 at a community hospital, researchers assessed the outcomes for patients treated with definitive radiotherapy for carcinoma of the supraglottic larynx vs the literature. At 5 years, the estimated local-regional control rate was 70%, ultimate LRC was 82%, laryngeal preservation was 65%, overall survival (OS) was 53%, disease-free survival was 75% and cause-specific survival rate was 76%. Compared to literature, comparable outcomes were reported in this study. A benefit for disease control or OS was neither seen with hyperfractionation nor with chemotherapy.
