Radiological images of interstitial pneumonia in mixed connective tissue disease compared with scleroderma and polymyositis/dermatomyositis
European Journal of Radiology Aug 16, 2018
Yamanaka Y, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers investigated whether the radiological images of interstitial pneumonia in mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) presented systemic sclerosis (SSc)-like or polymyositis/dermatomyositis (PM/DM)-like pattern as well as evaluated whether the imaging patterns corresponded to clinical and pathological features. Participants in the study were 29 patients with interstitial pneumonia who had a surgical lung biopsy. Results of this study suggested that high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) images in MCTD patients can be classified as SSc pattern or PM/DM pattern. It was noted that MCTD-SSc and MCTD-PM/DM corresponded to similar pathological findings of SSc and PM/DM.
