Radiological characteristics of extraocular muscles in myasthenia gravis patients with ocular manifestations: A case-control study
Clinical Ophthalmology Jun 04, 2021
Lueangaram S, Tritanon O, Siriyotha S, et al. - This retrospective case-control study was carried out to examine the radiological characteristics of the extraocular muscles (EOMs) in myasthenia gravis (MG) patients with ocular manifestations. From April 2009 to June 2018, all MG patients with ocular manifestations who attended a neuro-ophthalmology clinic at a university hospital in Bangkok were included in this study. The participants in the control group had normal eye movements. The study included 20 MG cases and 20 controls. Atrophic EOMs were common in the MG group, especially in chronic cases. The MG group also had isointensity with central hypointensity of EOMs on T2-weighted images with fat suppression. Such findings emphasize the significance of muscle involvement in MG and may aid in clinical decision-making.
