Radial vs femoral approach for saphenous vein grafts angiography and interventions
American Heart Journal Jan 17, 2019
Israeli Z, et al. - Researchers analyzed data from 1,481 patients undergoing saphenous venous graft (SVG) angiography and intervention in Canada, US and Spain to compare the safety and feasibility of performing SVG angiography and interventions using radial access (n = 863,211 intervention) vs the femoral approach (n = 618, 260 intervention). They assessed demographics, procedural data and in-hospital complications. They found that radial access was safe and feasible for performing SVG angiography and intervention and did not increase fluoroscopy time. Fewer catheters used, lower contrast volume, and lower rate of vascular access-site bleeding complications were reported in the radial group in experienced centers. Also, a higher likelihood of a same-day discharge home was observed in outpatients undergoing SVG-PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention) though the radial approach.
