Eaglehouse YL, et al. - In a universal health care system, investigators compared time to surgery (TTS) in 988 non-Hispanic black (NHB) and 3,899 non-Hispanic white (NHW) women with breast cancer and studied if racial differences in TTS might explain possible racial disparities in overall survival. In multivariable models, NHB women had a significantly greater estimated TTS at the 75th and 90th percentiles than NHW women. In the Military Health System, time for breast cancer surgery was delayed for NHB vs NHW women. The racial differences in TTS did not, however, explain the observed racial differences in overall survival among women receiving breast-conserving surgery.
