Race and renal cell carcinoma stage at diagnosis: An analysis of the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results data
European Journal of Cancer Prevention Jul 10, 2019
Lin J, et al. - Researchers studied Black and White patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) from the National Cancer Institute’s Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program, to determine racial disparities in RCC stage at diagnosis by histologic type and time period. After adjusting for age, sex, year of diagnosis, and tumor grade, the probability to be diagnosed with regional disease or distant disease was less among Blacks vs Whites. They concluded that compared to Whites, the likelihood of being diagnosed at a later stage RCC was less in blacks, irrespective of cancer histology. Throughout the study duration, the existence of this racial disparity could be reported over time.
