Race and ethnicity have significant influence on fractional exhaled nitric oxide
Annals of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Feb 10, 2018
Wang D, et al. - Given the impact of race and ethnicity on fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), the cutoff points for different races and ethnicities were investigated herein by analyzing the FeNO data collected by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2007 to 2012. Across races and ethnicities, significant differences in FeNO values were apparent. The current cutoff point at 50 ppb was found to be sufficient to differentiate healthy from asthmatic populations in adults. Increasing the cutoff point from 35 to 40 ppb was recommended for black children in order to avoid unnecessary diagnosis and treatment.
