Quick-SOFA score ≥ 2 predicts prolonged hospital stay in geriatric patients with influenza infection
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Jun 30, 2019
Yeh CC, et al. - In geriatric patients with influenza infection, researchers investigated the utility of the quick Sepsis-Related Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA) score in the identification of protracted length of hospital stay (pLOS). This retrospective case-control study included 409 geriatric patients (aged ≥ 65 years) with influenza infection who wen to the emergency department of a medical center between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2015. They observed a median length of stay (LOS) of 7.0 days with a pLOS (> 9 days) rate of 32%. The qSOFA ≥ 2 group had longer median LOS of 11.0 (7–15) days vs the qSOFA < 2 group that was 6.0 (4–10) days. These findings support the value of qSOFA score ≥ 2 as a prompt and simple tool for forecasting pLOS in geriatric patients with influenza infection.
