Quality of life outcomes after transmastoid plugging of superior semicircular canal dehiscence
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Sep 18, 2019
Allsopp T, et al. - In patients undergoing plugging of superior semicircular canal dehiscence using the transmastoid approach, researchers assessed the efficacy and impact on the quality of life. Retrospective chart review with prospective results evaluation, using validated quantitative scoring systems, was performed on 10 patients (aged 23 to 76 years) who had transmastoid plugging of superior semicircular canal dehiscence in a tertiary referral center between February 2014 and February 2018. The results of this indicate that transmastoid plugging of a dehiscence in the superior semicircular canal in these patients is a secure and efficient way to improve autophony, dizziness and overall quality of life. These findings should be taken into account when discussing the surgical strategy for patients considering this procedure.
