Quality of life from a randomized trial of laparoscopic or open liver resection for colorectal liver metastases
British Journal of Surgery Jul 24, 2019
Fretland AA, et al. - Postoperative health-related quality of life (HRQoL) after open vs laparoscopic liver resection was compared. Researchers performed a predefined substudy of an RCT comparing open with laparoscopic liver resection. Among a total of 280 patients who were randomized, surgery was performed on 273 patients (129 laparoscopic, 144 open); 682 questionnaires (83.3 %) were available for analysis. Patients assigned to laparoscopic liver surgery vs those assigned to open liver surgery reported better postoperative HRQoL. For role limitations caused by physical health problems, better scores up to 4 months after surgery were reported for patients in the laparoscopic group.
