Diseases of the Colon and Rectum Apr 17, 2019
van Dijk ST, et al. – Researchers evaluated quality of life and symptoms following antibiotic or observational treatment of uncomplicated acute diverticulitis in this observational study of randomized clinical trial data. The study sample consisted of 528 patients with CT-proven, primary, left-sided, uncomplicated acute diverticulitis who were randomized to observational or antibiotic treatment. Persistent symptoms were reported in more than one-third of patients following an episode of acute uncomplicated diverticulitis. Long-term quality of life was found to be comparable following initial antibiotic or observational therapy.
