Quality of life 10 years after sleeve gastrectomy: A multicenter study
Obesity Facts Mar 20, 2019
Felsenreich DM, et al. - Researchers examined the data to evaluate the quality of life (QOL) of individuals 10 years after sleeve gastrectomy (SG) in this multicenter study performed in a university hospital, Austria. They observed nonsignificant differences in the Bariatric Quality of Life Index (BQL) score between the candidates with > 50% or < 50% excess weight loss (EWL). Significant differences between subjects with and without symptoms of reflux were noted. They also reported a decline in the number of cases with < 50% EWL scores in 3/8 categories of Short Form 36 (SF36) questionnaires. They noticed significantly lower scores among individuals suffering from reflux in all categories. Overall, they reported an impairment of patients’ long-term QOL after SG due to EWL and symptomatic reflux.
