Quadratus lumborum block for postoperative analgesia after cesarean delivery: A systematic review and meta-analysis
International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia Feb 27, 2020
Xu M, et al. - By analyzing 12 relevant studies with 904 patients in a systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers determined whether quadratus lumborum block (QLB) can afford an effective option to reduce postoperative opioid use as well as how it impacts pain scores relative to other analgesic methods following cesarean delivery. From inception to August 2019, they explored 6 medical databases to identify trials involving parturients who had cesarean delivery under spinal anesthesia (not epidural or general anesthesia). Findings revealed that QLB provided a superior analgesic effect vs systemic opioids for decreasing postoperative opioid use when intrathecal morphine was not delivered.
