Pulse pressure correlates with coronary artery calcification and risk for coronary heart disease: A study of elderly individuals in the rural region of Southwest China
Coronary Artery Disease May 05, 2019
Wu X, et al. - In this study involving 170 elderly individuals from 11 villages of the Yunnan Province of China, researchers examined the link between pulse pressure (PP) and coronary artery calcification (CAC). They found a positive correlation of PP with the coronary calcium Agatston score, volume, mass, and density in this population. CAC and Framingham Risk Score were predicted by PP. Compared with coronary computed tomography scanning, the measurement of PP widening could afford an alternative and convenient tool to evaluate CAC risk in rural populations with poor accessibility and economic disadvantage.
