Publication trends in hidradenitis suppurativa from 2008 to 2018
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Mar 21, 2020
Savage KT, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to examine changes in hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) literature from 2008 to 2018 with a emphasis on quantity and quality of annual publications. To examine the change in publication number over time, linear regression analyses were performed. Annual average growth rate and distribution of high versus low level of evidence publications have been measured. Compared with low level of evidence studies (23.7%), high level of evidence studies had a higher average annual growth rate (49.9%). According to findings, HS research is undergoing a tremendous shift, indicating rapid maturation of the field. However, existing HS literature remains primarily focused on limited clinical observation data, with a significant lack of randomized clinical trials. Despite this, the rise in high-level research trials is promising and could signal a shift toward improved understanding of disease and paradigms for treatment.
