Public knowledge of human papillomavirus and receipt of vaccination recommendations
JAMA Pediatrics Nov 16, 2019
Suk R, Montealegre JR, Nemutlu GS, et al. - Researchers assessed the national-level estimates of human papillomavirus (HPV) knowledge as well as receipt of HPV vaccine recommendation from a healthcare professional. An HPV vaccination coverage (48.6% in 2017) far below the Healthy People 2020 goal of 80% is reported in the United States and the difference in coverage between boys (44.3%) and girls (53.1%) is 10%. For vaccine uptake, it is important that vaccine-eligible people and their parents acquire knowledge of HPV. With regard to the decision-making to vaccinate children, the parents can obtain assistance from the recommendation to receive an HPV vaccine from healthcare professionals.
