Psychosocial impact of epidermolysis bullosa on patients: A qualitative study
Pediatric Dermatology Jun 25, 2021
Sangha N, et al. - Researchers examined how epidermolysis bullosa (EB) affects the patients psychosocially as well as investigated the ways to improve their QoL. From the 2006 DEBRA Family Conference Day in Toronto, eight EB participants were selected and interviewed. Researchers herein identified following four themes: school interaction, daily life, family interactions, and societal interactions. Participants disclosed that peers tease them and avoid them; per their perception, the general public misunderstood their conditions. Because of school absenteeism, some patients fall behind in school, which may have been misinterpreted as intellectual impairment. Patients admitted significant dependence on others and felt they were adding to caregiver burden.
