Psychiatric symptoms after acute respiratory distress syndrome: A 5-year longitudinal study
Intensive Care Medicine Jan 10, 2018
Bienvenu OJ, et al. - In this study, patients who suffered acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) patients were followed for more than 5-year period for the characterization of anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms post-ARDS and to determine risk factors for prolonged psychiatric morbidity. A common occurrence of clinically significant and long-lasting symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD was reported in the first 5 years post-ARDS. Findings also suggested that for long-term mental health treatment planning after ARDS, in-hospital screening of psychiatric history, including recent anxiety and depression symptoms may be useful.
