Psoas compartment block vs periarticular local anesthetic infiltration for pain management for total hip arthroplasty: A prospective, randomized study

Journal of Arthroplasty Mar 07, 2018

Fahs A, et al. - This randomized study was carried out to compare the efficacy of the psoas compartment block (PCB) and periarticular soft tissue local anesthetic injection in pain management following total hip arthroplasty (THA). Researchers noted a similarity between the two methods. Periarticular anesthetic infiltration was preferred over PCB because of the improved immediate postoperative pain scores, and avoidance of potential symptoms related to nerve blockade.
