Pseudomeningocele aspiration and blood patch effectively treats positional headache associated with postoperative lumbosacral pseudomeningocele

Spine Aug 10, 2017

Sandwell S, et al. – For treating positional headaches attributed to postoperative lumbosacral pseudomeningoceles, researchers tested the efficacy and safety of blood patch injection. Findings demonstrated that symptomatic postoperative lumbosacral pseudomenigocele can be effectively treated with pseudomeningocele aspiration followed by blood patch. Moreover, this represented a minimally invasive alternative to surgical re–exploration with durotomy closure. It was noted that injections displayed the best efficacy when performed early after pseudomeningocele development.
