Proton-pump-inhibitor use associated with lower short-term rebleeding and mortality in patients receiving esophageal variceal band ligation: A retrospective cohort study
European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Oct 30, 2020
Ghoz H, Patel P, Stancampiano F, et al. - In this retrospective analysis of cirrhotic patients with variceal hemorrhage who received esophageal variceal band ligation (EBL) between 2005 and 2018, researchers assessed the links of proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) use with upper gastrointestinal bleeding and mortality within 30 days of receiving EBL separately in inpatient and outpatient settings. They analyzed 446 patients (164 inpatients, 282 outpatients). According to the findings, a lower risk of bleeding and death within 30 days post-variceal hemorrhage was observed in relation to post-EBL PPI therapy in hospitalized patients.
