Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Nov 17, 2017
Gray SL, et al. - This prospective population-based cohort study was performed to ascertain whether higher cumulative proton pump inhibitor (PPI) exposure was correlated with greater dementia risk. The researchers found no association of PPI use with dementia risk, even for people with high cumulative exposure. Outcomes from this study did not support that these medications ought to be avoided out of concern about dementia risk even though there were other safety concerns with long-term PPI use.
