Protective effects of vitamin E on chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism Jun 23, 2021
Miao H, Li R, Chen D, et al. - Researchers investigated if there exists any positive impact of vitamin E on chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), by analyzing relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in this meta-analysis. Eligible trials were identified from PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane, and other databases. They found eight RCTs comprising 488 patients. According to pooled data, a lower incidence of CIPN was found in patients who received vitamin E supplementation of 600 mg/day vs the placebo group. Also, a key role of vitamin E in reducing peripheral neuropathy incidence in cisplatin chemotherapy group, was revealed. Overall, findings of this meta-analysis demonstrated that modest improvement in prevention of CIPN can be brought about by vitamin E supplementation.
